Andre Souza is a principal scientist in medical imaging, 3D data visualization and analysis. His work spans over 15 years of experience in 3D image processing, covering topics such as segmentation, image filtering and registration, 3D visualization, machine learning, 2D/3D user interaction. From 2002 to 2007, Andre was a PostDoc with the Medical Imaging Processing Group (MIPG) at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Medicine - Department of Radiology. He has published over 20 papers on image processing and related topics, and he has served as a reviewer for major scientific journals (Computer Vision and Image Understanding, IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, Medical Physics Journal, IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, Journal of Mathematical Imaging and Vision, Journal of Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery) and was a program committee member for the Workshop on Interactive Graphics and Visualization for Industry-Driven Applied and Exploratory Research (SIBIGRAPI 2011).
Andre joined on entrepreneurial efforts to create innovative solutions for a mobile startup company and develop research grant applications, including one funded by NIH for $1.8 million. Holder of seven U.S patents and one European patent. Global experience, with extended overseas assignment in Marne-la-Vallee (suburb of Paris), France. He worked on technical support and customer services for a major telecom company in Brazil. Andre has a passion for entrepreneurship, startups and software development. He holds a Master of Science in Innovation Management from Rochester Institute of Technology at Saunders College of Business, and has a track record in developing, managing and delivering software solutions.
Andre holds a Doctor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Medical Physics from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He conducted his doctorate research at the University of Pennsylvania from 2000 to 2001. Andre earned his Bachelor degree in Physics from the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil.
